Remember, remember the 5th of November; gunpowder, treason and plot! OK, there’s was absolutely no reason at all to recite that rhyme, it’s just that we haven’t said it since we were about 8 and we suddenly felt all nostalgic.
But putting that to one side for the moment, it’s that time of year again when autumn starts to come to its close, the nights start drawing in, the clocks are about to go back and Bonfire Night is almost upon us, and it’s a time of year that we at Guanabana absolutely love. Admittedly, with our Latin Caribbean heritage it’s undeniable that we love a bit of summer, but we’re also British to the core and there’s nothing more British than the bracing wind and beautiful colours of autumn and a celebration based around blowing up the monarchy!
Unlike Halloween, which seems to be getting bigger and bigger each year (check out our Halloween blog to find out about our free dessert offer!), Bonfire Night - or Guy Fawkes Night, as some people still call it - is a uniquely British holiday – yes, most of the rest of the world hasn’t even heard of it, and boy are they missing out!
Whilst it started as a celebration of the fact that a load of naughty people didn’t quite manage to blow up the Houses of Parliament, we’re pretty sure that most people have forgotten about that now and just know it as the one night of the year when we all light giant bonfires and eat toffee apples! And of course there’s always that musty fog that hangs over the country on the morning afterwards from all the fires and fireworks that have been set off…you don’t get that anywhere else do you?!
Of course, one of the best things about Bonfire Night though is the fact that you get to stay up late and stand around in the cold and dark, waiting for one side of your face to be burned by the bonfire whilst you get frostbite in your toes – or that’s how we remember it anyway – and the one thing you need after you’ve gone through all that is some blinking good grub, and that’s where Guanabana is coming to the rescue once again!
Wherever you’re going this Bonfire Night, whether you’re going to one of the hundreds of organised events around London or just rocking out in your back garden with some fireworks from the corner shop, Guanabana is on hand to offer some amazingly tasty, flavourful food that’s guaranteed to warm you up from head to toe.
And even better, we’re open every day of the week until 11:30 pm, so you can call in for some much needed bonfire fuel before your festivities or after, and whether you’re celebrating on Thursday 5th itself or waiting until the weekend, so there’s no excuse to brave the cold with an empty tummy!
Luckily for you, heart-warming food is all that Guanabana does; with a fusion of traditions that blends the best of British with Mexican, Latin and Caribbean, and a wide range of menus and daily specials, you can be sure of finding something that suits your tastes, such as our latest special, Grilled Chicken Parmesan Salad (yes, we can even make a salad heart-warming);
Or the deliciously different taste explosion that is Scallops Masago Wasabi with Yucca Tortilla;
OK, it’s a bit of a long winded name full of bizarre words, but it tastes bloody amazing and it really will warm your cockles!
